Building a strong school for the Haven Bay communities

Dear Haven Bay Parents, Guardians and Employees,
The new school year is fast approaching and we are looking forward to the opening of Weber School District’s newest elementary school. This email is a follow-up to the message we sent in July regarding the 2024-25 school year at Haven Bay.
Our contractors have been working hard and great progress has been made towards the school’s completion! We are nearly there! There are a few inspection items that need to be finished up and once completed we will be given building occupancy.
We are now looking at two scenarios. They are as follows:
Scenario 1
The school will open on September 3, 2024, with the majority of the building ready for occupancy. In this scenario, two wings will be walled off from use while construction in these areas is completed.
There will be certain aesthetic items that still need to be finished and the work in these areas will be ongoing. Construction during the day will be closed off from areas where the children are attending school. The children will not be in areas where construction workers are present.
Scenario 2
We will combine the Haven Bay school community with two nearby elementary schools for a short period of time. In this scenario, our Haven Bay students will be accommodated in the neighboring schools while occupancy is achieved. The students will begin school on August 21, 2024.
Our final reviews at Haven Bay will be taking place on August 13, 2024. If we are granted permission for occupancy our Scenario 1 will be implemented. If the final review indicates the need for extended time, then Scenario 2 will be employed.
We will send notice of the decision and next steps on August 14th.

Dear Haven Bay Elementary Parents, Guardians, and Employees,
We hope this letter finds you well and we hope you’re enjoying your summer break. As we approach the upcoming school year, we are providing you with an update regarding the construction progress at Haven Bay Elementary.
As previously indicated, we’ve experienced various setbacks during the course of the construction process. While we are still working towards occupancy of the building for the first day of school (August 21st) this goal may be impacted by various factors including the final inspection.
With this in mind, we wanted to send a reminder of the possible planned adjustments that could include one of the following:
- Beginning school on August 21st (on time) by utilizing certain areas of the new building that have been completed, inspected and approved for public use.
- If it is determined that the school’s start date must be delayed, the plan would be to begin on the first Tuesday after the Labor Day weekend, (September 3rd).
- This plan would take effect if we are extremely confident that the delayed start date would be no later than Tuesday, September 3rd. A delayed start of eight days would allow us the needed time to complete mandated tasks, be awarded occupancy of the school by the Utah State Fire Marshal, and provide school staff adequate time to prepare for the arrival of students.
- If a delay greater that two weeks were necessary:
- We would combine the Haven Bay school community with two nearby elementary school sites for a short period of time.
Finally, in working with our contractor, we have determined the date of August 7th to send an email with updated information. In this communication, we will share any revised timeline for the school's opening. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support as we navigate these challenges.

Weber School District Board of Education announcement
The Weber School District Board of Education announced the name and mascot for our school at its March 6, 2024, meeting.
The board was presented with several options by the school's naming committee, and ultimately selected "Haven Bay".
- "Haven" refers to a safe or peaceful place.
- "Bay" was added because the school's close proximity to Ogden Bay.
- "Herons" seemed like a unique and natural choice for the mascot.
