Exciting news is soaring through the halls at Haven Bay Elementary School! 🪶 Today, our brilliant fifth graders soared into action for a high-stakes rescue mission that brought hands-on learning to life. In a fun and challenging team-building exercise, students were introduced to the scientific method through a creative task: saving Fred, a friendly gummy worm who found himself in quite a pickle after his boat capsized on the lake. ⛵

With Fred stuck stranded on top of his overturned vessel and his life preserver trapped underneath, our young Herons had to put their thinking caps on. Armed with only two paper clips per partner, student pairs worked together to retrieve the life preserver and fit it securely around Fred without injuring him or letting him drop into the watery depths. The activity demanded clever planning, careful trial and error, and continuous testing—giving students a memorable firsthand taste of hypothesis testing and problem-solving in action.

The fifth-grade classrooms were filled with laughter, focus, and incredible collaboration throughout the entire challenge! 🎉 Our Herons showed off their marvelous determination and teamwork, successfully saving Fred while mastering the core principles of scientific experimentation. Haven Bay Elementary continues to be a wonderful place where curiosity thrives, and today's rescue mission proves that learning and innovation are alive and well in our community!
