That's right—the pen was mightier than the sword! ✍️ Want to see how it all happened? Check out the super cool exhibit, “The Pen is Mightier,” nearby! A fun way to see how America's Founders communicated at the Heritage Museum of Layton, Davis County now until February 1, 2026! This is a wonderful opportunity to see some history up close! 🦅 Herons Honor Our Heroes: Veterans Day Week Recap! 🇺🇸
What an incredible week of gratitude and patriotism at Haven Bay Elementary! Our Great Blue Herons truly soared in their efforts to honor our veterans. We followed our schedule and made sure every day was dedicated to service and appreciation.

🌟 Highlights of the Week included Flags of Freedom: The week began with our amazing students planting flags around the school, creating a beautiful display of patriotism right outside Haven Bay.The Hero Wall: Our main hallways was transformed into a powerful Hero Wall featuring photos and stories of the brave veterans and active duty service members from our community's families. What a moving tribute! Red, White, and Blue Day: Students and staff showed their spirit by dressing in patriotic colors for our Veterans Day Flag Ceremony. VFW Honor Guard Visit: We were deeply honored to host members of the VFW Honor Guard (Veterans of Foreign Wars), who visited classrooms to share stories and the meaning of service with our students. Their time and dedication inspired us all! Letters to Service Members: Herons wrote heartfelt thank you letters that will be sent to active duty service members to bring a piece of home to those serving far away.

Thank you to the veterans, military families, the VFW Honor Guard, and our dedicated teachers for making this week so meaningful. We are proud of our Herons for learning the importance of honoring those who serve.

📢 Get Ready to Soar with Gratitude, Haven Bay Herons! 💙
Next week is our dedicated Veterans Day Week, and we are excited for our students to honor our nation's heroes! Our Great Blue Herons will be participating in meaningful activities to show their appreciation and learn about service.
Here's a peek at what's coming up:
📚 Learning Loyalty: On Monday night, Ms. James will read out loud from her home at 6:30PM. She will be reading the moving true story of friendship between a Marine and a dog in Iraq, "Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle." Join on Youtube at https://youtube.com/live/aeVLpUHoBVM?feature=share on on our school’s website under the Student tab.
🇺🇸 Building Our Hero Wall of Honor: We're inviting all students to bring in photos and brief summaries of veterans or active duty service members in their family or community! We will be building a powerful "Hero Wall" in the main hallway to display their courage. Please send it to school by Tuesday, November 11.
✍️ A Letter of Thanks: Students will be able to write a personal thank you letter to a service member, sending messages of support and gratitude for their sacrifice. Families can also send in letters from home and Mrs. Hayes will get them mailed.
🎤 Veteran Guest Speakers: We are finalizing visits from local veterans who will share their experiences and inspire our students with stories of service and duty.
We can't wait to see our students learn the true meaning of honor and appreciation next week.

The atmosphere was absolutely electric with 🎶 great music,🎈 fun balloon arches,🏃 excellent running tracks, 👨‍🚀 Even an astronaut! (How cool is that?!).

This week at Haven Bay Elementary, our Great Blue Herons in the fourth grade had a FIN-tastic learning experience! 🤩
They met some amazing visitors: axolotls! Did you know these incredible creatures:
Originated from Mexico? 🇲🇽
Are close relatives of salamanders?
Are masters of regeneration—they can regrow their legs, gills, and even tails! 🤯
Keep their gills for life, so they're water-bound superheroes! 💧

Our students learned all about what they eat and how these amazing animals swallow their meals whole! Talk about a fun fact! Our fourth graders are turning into true animal experts! 🔬

On Wednesday, October 22nd, let's all Wear Orange to take a stand against bullying and show that we are all UNITED! 🍊 We're celebrating a day early because Thursday, October 23rd is already jam-packed!

Speaking of the 23rd, remember that Thursday, October 23rd is our much-anticipated Picture Retakes and the exciting Fun Run! Phew! It's going to be a super fun, busy day! Let's make October 22nd a sea of orange and show everyone how this flock of Herons sticks together! Who's ready to fly high and unite? 💙

Representative Moore, who serves Utah’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, spoke with our 4th–6th graders about how a bill makes its way through the House and Senate, what it takes to be elected, and the importance of treating others with kindness—even when we have differences. 💙 Our Herons also had the chance to ask him questions about his job, his family, and government in general. Representative Moore was very impressed with the thoughtful questions our students asked! 👏👏

🎉 Big excitement at Haven Bay yesterday afternoon! 🎉 We rolled out the Heron welcome for a very special guest — Speaker of the House Mike Schultz! 🪶 He spent the afternoon touring our school, stopping into classrooms, chatting with faculty and staff, and even grabbing time in the lunchroom with some of our students. Today was an amazing day at Haven Bay—we celebrated our Superintendent Summer Reading & Math Awards! Each year, our Superintendent sends out log sheets for students to record their summer reading and math practice. Our hardworking Herons filled them out, turned them in, and today we got to recognize all of their effort! 🎉 A huge thank you to our District leaders who joined us—reading to each grade level, presenting awards, and making this celebration extra special. 🙌
