📚✨ Our third through sixth-grade Herons had the absolute best time today welcoming the amazingly talented children’s book author McCall Hoyle all the way from Georgia. She completely captivated our young readers with behind-the-scenes secrets about how she creates her heartwarming, hero-dog stories and turns wild ideas into real books! Her passion for storytelling was so infectious that our upper-grade Herons couldn't wait to grab a book and let their imaginations take flight. 🦅🐶

What an incredible lesson in 5th grade yesterday! 🪥✨ Mrs. Burton’s class took on the ultimate toothpaste challenge—students had one minute to squeeze an entire tube out, and then one minute to try and put it all back in! As our flock returns to routine, school safety remains a top priority for our Haven Bay family 🏫. Understanding local traffic laws is one of the easiest ways parents and neighbors can protect our young learners on their daily walk or bike ride to school. Drivers should remember that school zone crosswalks follow much stricter laws than standard pedestrian crossings. While regular pedestrian crosswalks—marked by single-person yellow signs—only require drivers to yield to pedestrians on their side of the road, school crosswalks operate differently. Recognized by yellow diamond signs showing two pedestrians in motion and ladder-style bars painted across the asphalt, these zones demand maximum caution. Utah law mandates that drivers come to a complete stop for anyone in a school crosswalk including the crossing guard, even if the pedestrian is on the far opposite side of the road, and wait until they have entirely cleared the street before proceeding.

By slowing down, watching for double-pedestrian yellow signs, and obeying crosswalk markings, our entire community plays a vital role in keeping our Herons safe. Thank you for making our school zone secure and helping us kick off a bright, successful year ahead! 🎒✨
