🍳 Fueling Our Flight at Haven Bay! What a week, Heron family! We just wrapped up National School Breakfast Week, and it was an absolute blast. We know that a Great Blue Heron can’t soar on an empty stomach, and the same goes for our amazing students. Research shows that a nutritious start to the day leads to better focus, higher energy, and bigger smiles in the classroom. 🌟 Our cafeteria crew went above and beyond with delicious breakfast treats. Seeing our students eat together reminded us why Haven Bay is such a special place to grow! A massive THANK YOU to our hardworking nutrition team for keeping our flock fed and ready to learn every single day. You are the real MVPs!

What an incredible night at Haven Bay! 🍫📚 Our Great Blue Herons and their families flocked to the school for a "sweet" celebration of reading at our Chocolate Touch: Books and Bites Literacy Night! The energy was electric as our hallways transformed into a chocolate lover’s paradise. From trivia to tasty treats, it was a night to remember. ✨ Our students showed off their "sweet" smarts, competing in trivia challenges that put their chocolate knowledge to the test! Families gathered around for cozy reading sessions, bringing the magic of Reading to life. We had a "Chocolate Cake Walk," "Chocolate Bingo," and even a photo booth to capture all the smiles. The gym was buzzing with students finding their next favorite adventure to take home. No literacy night is complete without snacks! Our students loved the custom cookies and chocolatey surprises throughout the evening.

💙 A Huge Thank You! A massive shout-out to our amazing staff, our wonderful parent volunteers and PTA Board, and all the families who joined us. Events like this remind us why the Haven Bay community is so special. Seeing our Herons dive into books with such excitement is exactly what we love to see!

Our amazing students have been channeling their inner authors to share what it really means to be a Haven Bay Heron. From heartfelt stories to bold opinions, the talent on display is absolutely inspiring! But that’s not all—we’ve packed the night with fun for the whole family. Walk the halls and read the "Heron Opinions" our students have worked so hard on! Head to the lower level pods for literacy-themed games and activities all night long. Looking for your next favorite read? The Book Fair will be open for business during the entire event! Come for the writing, stay for the games, and leave with a new book! 🏗️ Engineering Excellence at Haven Bay! 🏗️
Our Great Blue Herons have been reaching new heights—and lengths—this week! Our brilliant fifth-grade students faced off in the STEM Olympiad tryouts, tackling the ultimate structural challenge: the Longest Freestanding Paper Cantilever. The goal was to build the longest paper structure that sticks out from a table and stays up entirely on its own. Working in teams of three, our Herons had a tight 15-minute window to design and build. 📏It wasn’t just about length; it was about precision engineering! To qualify, every team had to follow strict rules. Each team used only 10 sheets of copy paper and 20 inches of masking tape; no masking tape was allowed to touch the table surfaces; and the structure had to stay on the table using only its own weight—no attaching it to the floor or walls. All parts of the structure on the table had to remain between the table edge and a blue tape line set 12 inches back.

⚖️ Once "hands off" was called, the pressure was on! A judge set a 30-second timer. To qualify for measurement, the cantilever had to remain perfectly stable—no collapsing, no touching the floor, and no visible downward movement. It's inspiring to see our 5th graders collaborating and problem-solving under pressure. From reinforced paper tubes to clever counterweights, their innovation was off the charts! 💙 Who will hold the record for the longest stable cantilever at Haven Bay? Stay tuned for the final results!

🥢 Picking Up New Skills at Haven Bay! Happy National Chopstick Day! Our second-grade Herons took on a "hands-on" challenge today as they dove into the history and art of using chopsticks. From practicing their fine motor skills to testing their patience, these students showed true Heron perseverance! They spent the morning mastering the technique by moving colorful beads between cups—which is much trickier than it looks!

Watching them help one another and celebrate every successful "catch" was the highlight of our day. We love seeing our students embrace new cultural experiences and sharpen those coordination skills. Great job, second grade! Keep soaring! 💙

To make sure every household gets a book, we distributed one copy per family to the oldest sibling or only child in each household. Keep an eye out for them coming home in backpacks this week or they were handed out during your Parent-Teacher Conferences!

Our first graders at Haven Bay Elementary took "paws-itive" vibes to a whole new level this week! What an incredible week it was at Haven Bay Elementary! Our Herons truly soared during Red Ribbon Week, showing everyone that making healthy choices is always in style. From wild hair to cozy pajamas, our students brought so much energy and heart to every single day. We painted the school RED to show our commitment to healthy living. We "socked it" to unhealthy habits with some seriously Crazy Socks on Tuesday and took it easy in our PJs while dreaming big for our futures on Wednesday. Things got a little wild with Crazy Hair Day—creativity was at an all-time high! We wrapped it all up with School Spirit Day, proving that Herons fly best when we fly together! "Be proud, be strong, be healthy!"

A huge thank you to our amazing students, staff, and parents for making this week such a success. We are so proud of the smart, healthy choices our Herons are making every day.

🎶 Haven Bay 6th graders had an absolute blast Friday morning visiting Rocky Mountain Junior High! It was a day full of creativity, rhythm, and future inspiration. Our students got a sneak peek into the world of Performing Arts and jumped right into the action! 🎭They broke the ice playing fun improv games in Drama. 🎻 They were swept away by some stirring music with Orchestra. 🎤 In Choir, they warmed up their vocal cords and sang along.🎺 They listened to an impressive competition piece with the Band! The highlight? Every student got the chance to try out different band and orchestra instruments hands-on! 🎷🥁

Research shows that fine arts help students find success in so many areas of life, from confidence to academics. We are so proud of our 6th Grade Great Blue Herons and hope to see many of them signing up for fine arts classes in junior high!

🛼 Great Night at the Rink! 🛼
What an incredible turnout for our Haven Bay Elementary Skate Night at Classic Fun Center! Wednesday night was filled with neon lights, fast wheels, and the best community around. From our pros, including Mr. Skeen and Mrs. Treece, zooming around the rink to our beginners mastering the "skate helpers," it was amazing to see so many Great Blue Herons soaring (and occasionally rolling) together! Whether you were there for the skating, the arcade, or a classic blue ICEE, we hope you had a blast making memories with friends and family. It is always great seeing our students and families represent Haven Bay off-campus! Shoutout to our brave skaters who tried out the rink for the first time and a huge thank you to our amazing PTA for sponsoring such a fun mid-week break. Events like these remind us why the Haven Bay community is so special. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the school and enjoy the night!

🐦❄️ Our Second Grade Herons have been soaring to new heights (and even hibernating a bit) lately! Check out the amazing adventure they had at the Ogden Nature Center on Friday. It was a day full of discovery, laughter, and learning what it takes to survive the chill. Our students stepped into the world of winter wildlife to see how animals adapt when the temperature drops. They tackled the Big Sleep: Students crawled into a real bear den to get a firsthand feel for what hibernation is truly like (Don't worry, they didn't stay all winter!), and explored the clever ways animals change their bodies and behaviors to survive the Utah frost. To help our local birds keep their energy up, every student crafted a custom pinecone bird feeder to take home.

A huge thank you to our incredible Parent Chaperones who took their roles to the next level! They put their theater skills to the test by acting as "migratory obstacles" for our student "animals." From playing rolling mountain boulders and hungry mountain lions to the occasional speeding car on a mountain trail, they made the lesson on migration both hilarious and unforgettable. It’s days like these that make being a Haven Bay Heron so special. Hands-on learning creates memories that last a lifetime! We are so proud of our students for being such curious and brave explorers. Way to go, Haven Bay! 💙🛡️

5th Grade Haven Bay Herons soared to success in November! 💙

We're still buzzing from the incredible energy our 5th-grade students brought to their field trip last month at Junior Achievement City BizTown! They didn't just visit a city, they ran one! 🏢 Our young Great Blue Herons transformed into CEOs, CFOs, City Mayors, and local entrepreneurs, learning first-hand about financial literacy, business management, and the importance of teamwork. They managed payroll, balanced budgets, and took on real-world jobs—connecting everything they learn in the classroom to the world outside! We couldn't be prouder of the critical thinking and collaboration skills they showcased. Way to fuel the future, Herons! 🌟

⚡️ Fifth Grade also had a Reverse Field Trip where the learning came to HBES! Our fantastic 5th graders recently tested their speed and smarts with Reaction Time! They had a blast exploring science and discovering how fast they could react to different challenges. Talk about quick thinkers! 📚 Amazing Learning Every Day!
